Katana Motochika is a completed customer sword build centered around a T10 steel blade with traditional clay tempering and a distinctive Hitatsura hamon.
Unlike a simple straight or gently flowing temper line, the Hitatsura hamon spreads irregularly across the blade surface, creating a dramatic pattern of bright, flame-like activity along the hardened edge. Under the polished finish, the changing shapes of the hamon become one of the strongest visual features of the entire build.
The mounting keeps the overall presentation restrained and highly contrasted. A black tsuka wrap is set over white samegawa, creating a classic black-and-white pattern along the handle. The dark round tsuba features a radial openwork design, while subtle metallic details around the fuchi, kashira, seppa, and habaki add definition without distracting from the blade.
The saya introduces the strongest contrast in the mounting. Its white surface is scattered with fine black speckling, giving the scabbard a textured appearance rather than a plain solid-white finish. Black fittings and a black sageo visually connect the saya back to the darker tsuka and tsuba.
Together, the irregular Hitatsura hamon, monochrome mounting, and speckled white saya give this Motochika build a distinctive identity while keeping the overall composition clean and balanced.
