Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Attributed to Echizen Seki 越前関 NBTHK HOZON TOKEN Certificate
We are pleased to introduce a sword in original condition from an old family in Hyogo Prefecture.
This sword has a deep curve, with a distinct difference in width between the base and the tip, and an extended kissaki. The kitae (forging pattern) features small itame mixed with masame, creating a hazy appearance. The hamon is a wavy pattern mixed with gunome and pointed gunome, with large nie along the edge, ashi entering the blade, and sunagashi appearing. The boshi is straight on both sides and ends in a rounded tip.
Although the sword appears to be from an older period, the tang shows traces of a signature that has decayed or been deliberately removed. Considering this, we initially thought it to be from the late Muromachi period to the early Edo period. However, upon examination by the NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai), it was determined to be from the early Edo period and attributed to Echizen Seki. The strong curve and elegant appearance of the sword make one forget that it is a weapon.
We have performed appropriate restoration work (new Shirasaya, high-quality polishing, and new silver habaki) at our shop. Please enjoy the fresh, polished appearance of the blade.
Bare weight: 735 grams.
