Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Attributed to Taira Takada 平高田 NBTHK HOZON TOKEN Certificate
The Hoshū Takada school is a faction of swordsmiths that flourished in the Takada area of Bungo Province (present-day Tsukasaki near Ōita City). In the kotō period, many smiths inscribed their works with the surname Taira, thus they were known as Taira Takada. From the shintō period onward, they used the surname Fujiwara, hence they are generally referred to as Fujiwara Takada. This school has long been highly regarded for its practical swords, which were beloved by many warriors.
This sword features mokume-hada forging, with a prominent grain pattern. The bright hamon based on ko-nie is covered with nie along the edge and filled with frequent ashi, giving it an antique appearance. The accompanying koshirae is in excellent condition. The saya shows no signs of age-related damage or dents, and it is adorned with superb fuchigashira made by Hirano Tomomichi, featuring bamboo in sumi-zogan on a polished shibuichi surface. The tsuba, matching the fuchigashira, has a bamboo and snowflake pattern in sukashi. Additionally, our shop has newly fitted the tsuba with seki-gane and silver seppa, ensuring it is securely in place without any rattling. We highly recommend submitting the koshirae for a preservation fittings inspection to ensure it is cherished and passed down through generations.
Bare weight: 664 grams. Weight with koshirae: 954 grams.
