Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Attributed to Uda 宇多 NBTHK HOZON TOKEN Certificate
The 宇多派 (Uda school) originated in the late Kamakura period around the Bunpo era when 古入道国光 (Ko Nyudo Kunimitsu) moved from Yamato Province's Uda District to Echizen Province. The school continued to prosper through the Muromachi period. Notably, works from the late Kamakura to the Nanbokucho period are referred to as 古宇多 (Ko Uda), while works from the Muromachi period are referred to as 宇多 (Uda).
This sword has an elegant shape with a pronounced difference in width between the base and tip. The steel has a ko-itame (small wood grain) pattern with kashira-tachi (visible grain), and the hamon is a suguha style with small waves, showing features such as sunagashi and kinsuji throughout the blade.
For those interested, we can provide a newly crafted martial koshirae supervised by our shop owner, Machii Isao. The fittings feature a katsumushi (victory insect) design, the saya is lacquered in black, and the handle is wrapped in silk ito with a shijira-maki (twist wrap) style.
*The koshirae photos are for reference only.
Bare weight: 630 grams. Expected weight with koshirae: approximately 900 grams.
