Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Ietsugu 家次 NBTHK HOZON Certificate

加州家次 (Kashū Ietsugu) was a swordsmith of the 藤島派 (Fujishima school), with the first generation 家次 (Ietsugu) active around the early 室町 (Muromachi) period (應永, Ōei era), and the school flourished until the end of the 室町 (Muromachi) period. Due to the same signature as 青江 (Aoe) Ietsugu, he is also referred to as 加賀青江 (Kaga Aoe).

In existing works, it is common to observe very prominent grain and particularly rough 柾目 (masame) on the 鎬地 (shinogiji). This sword is no exception, showing prominent grain and a small 板目 (itame) 地鉄 (jigane) with a faint 映り (utsuri). The 刃文 (hamon) features a gentle 匂口 (nioiguchi) with elements of 直刃 (suguha), 互ノ目 (gunome), and 互ノ目丁子 (gunome-choji). Various changes can be seen in the 刃 (ha), with notable 金筋 (kinsuji) and 稲妻 (inazuma) appearing.

The accompanying 拵 (koshirae), though a later addition, is adorned with ivy patterns on the 鐔 (tsuba) and 目貫 (menuki). The 鞘 (saya) features a very luxurious stone texture lacquer with cracks and scattered ivy patterns, making it a prestigious piece on its own. Even when unsheathed, the well-balanced weight towards the hand and the elegant shape with a notable difference between the base and tip make the blade a perfect match for this 拵 (koshirae).

The 拵 (koshirae) is in excellent condition without any damage. We kindly ask only those who appreciate it as a pure art sword to consider this piece.

Bare weight: 750 grams.
Weight with 拵 (koshirae) and without 鞘 (saya): 1,064 grams.
