Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Yamato no kuni ju Kaneaki 大和國住包明 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TŌKEN Certificate
The creator of this sword, 包明 (Kaneaki), initially signed his works as 正吉 (Masayoshi). He was an active swordsmith in 大和国 (Yamato province) and learned his sword-making skills from 包保 (Kaneyasu). There are also works signed with a leftward character, following the style of his teacher, 包保 (Kaneyasu).
This sword features a well-forged, tightly-grained 小板目肌 (ko-itame hada) with ji-nie and chikei. The 刃文 (hamon) is a bright, clear gunome-midare, with gunome-choji mixed in around the monouchi area. The blade edge is adorned with large clusters of nie, and the blade has intricate sunagashi, kinsuji, and ha visible in the steel. The 帽子 (boshi) is large with gunome above the yokote, and the tip returns straight into an o-maru.
There are some aging scratches visible, but they do not interfere with appreciation. The sword is well-balanced with the center of gravity towards the hand, making it easy to handle.
*There is a buried iron in the groove.
Bare weight: 754 grams.
