Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Yamashiro Daijo Minamoto Kunishige  山城大掾源國重 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificat

Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige, the younger brother of Ozuki Yogo Kunishige, received the title of Yamashiro Daijo in the second year of Shoho and made swords in Edo and Tsuyama in Mimasaka Province. Along with the second-generation Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige, they are known as Edo Mizuta.

This sword has a typical Kanbun Shinto shape with a shallow sori and a noticeable difference in width between the base and the tip. The jigane is a well-forged combination of small itame and mokume hada, and the hamon, which is characteristic of Kunishige, is a suguha with intense ara nie (coarse nie). The hamon features slight ko-gunome and notare elements, with ashi and ara nie spilling into the ji. At first glance, it appears to be a simple suguha, but the intense nie makes it an impressive piece.

The balance is excellent with the center of gravity near the handle, making it feel even better when mounted in koshirae.

Bare weight: 686 grams.
