Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by
Ninmeikutsu 任命窟 NBTHK HOZON TOKEN Certificate
Although the name 任命窟 does not appear in the swordsmith records at hand, according to "因伯の刀工と鐔," he is said to be a disciple or son of 三村一貫窟頼之, though this is uncertain. The workmanship of the tang (nakago) and other features indicate that he was undoubtedly a member of the same school, and he was an active swordsmith during the Bakumatsu period.
The width difference between the base and tip is well-proportioned, and the kissaki (tip) is slightly extended. The center of gravity is towards the hand, providing good balance. The steel has a well-forged mokume hada with fine chikei, showing a faint utsuri. The hamon is a bright gunome midare, with large and small patterns alternating, and the peaks of the hamon split into two or three parts. The boshi is straight with a rounded tip on both sides.
*There is a forging flaw approximately 9 cm above the habaki on the mune side.
The accompanying koshirae features a heavy tsuba with a cloud and dragon motif weighing 256 grams, enhancing the balance towards the hand and making it easier to handle.
Bare weight: 790 grams.
Weight with koshirae and without saya: 1,212 grams.
