Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Miyauchinosuke Tomofusa 宮内之介友房 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate
友房 (Tomofusa) was a swordsmith from 陸奥 (Mutsu) who lived in 白石 (Shiroishi) and was active around the 慶應 (Keio) period.
This sword is slender with a noticeable difference in width between the base and the tip, giving it an elegant and graceful appearance. The tip is slightly extended, with grooves (刀樋) running along both sides. The steel (地鉄) is well-forged with a fine ko-itame grain that is densely packed and thick with ji-nie, giving it a smooth appearance. However, the underlying grain pattern is visible. The hamon has a deep nioiguchi, featuring large nie in a gunome pattern, mixed with yubashiri-like tobiyaki. It includes ashi in the ha and occasional ko-choji, with sunagashi, creating a dynamic appearance. The hamon extends into a midare-komi pattern at the boshi, which sweeps back sharply and returns in a round shape.
The nakago bears an inscription indicating that it was a custom order, suggesting that it was meticulously crafted. The balance is centered towards the handle, making it feel very light and easy to handle.
Since it fits well into standard saya, it is possible to create a koshirae at a low cost.
Bare weight: 662 grams.
