Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Kajikawa Toshitaka  梶川壽孝 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

Jukou was a disciple of Hamabe Toshiyuki and the younger brother of Toshishige. He wielded his hammer in the Inaba province around the Keio period at the end of the Edo period. As you may know, with the Meiji Restoration came the Haitorei Edict, which prohibited the carrying of swords, unfortunately preventing Jukou from fully showcasing his talents. As a result, this sword is one of the few rare works by Jukou.

The mokume hada is slightly prominent near the base, while the steel tightens as it moves toward the tip. The hamon is a bright suguha with some nodes, kinsugi, and features resembling kuchigaibashi (zigzag patterns). The boshi is extended and returns in an omaru shape. The sori is relatively shallow, with little difference in width between the base and the tip, and the extended boshi is a characteristic style that became popular in the late Edo period. This robust blade, with its notably thick kasane, was likely a special order designed with actual combat in mind.

Although the current condition allows for the appreciation of the steel and temper line, there are some small rust spots. We are offering this blade at an affordable price, anticipating that the buyer may wish to have it polished. If interested, please feel free to commission polishing services through our shop.

Bare weight: 864 grams.
