Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Bushu Simohara ju Naiki Yasushige 武州下原住内記康重 NTHK Shinteisho Certificate
The 武州下原派 (Bushu Shimohara school) was founded by 山本周重 (Yamamoto Shigeju) during the Eisho period, who lived in what is now Hachioji, Tokyo. This school flourished greatly through the Edo period, centering around ten families of the Yamamoto clan.
Particularly famous are the four craftsmen, "廣重" (Hiroshige), "周重" (Shigeju), "康重" (Yasushige), and "照重" (Terushige). It is said that their distinctive feature is the appearance of grain patterns resembling swirling vortexes (uzumaki-hada no nyorimoku) in the steel.
The first generation 康重 (Yasushige) was the son of the first generation 周重 (Shigeju), and initially signed his works as 周重 (Shigeju). It is said that he received the character "康" from Hojo Ujiyasu and changed his name to 康重 (Yasushige). The third generation 康重 (Yasushige) was known as Yamamoto Naiki and is believed to be the son or grandson of the second generation 藤左衛門康重 (Toszaemon Yasushige). From the fourth generation onward, the name 山本内記康重 (Yamamoto Naiki Yasushige) was inherited until the Meiji era, but there are very few extant works.
This sword is considered to be the work of the fourth generation 康重 (Yasushige) based on its style. It exhibits the typical Kanbun Shinto form, with the steel displaying a mokume hada mixed with dark-colored unusual steel, and a softly flowing suguha hamon.
Our shop has polished this sword. Please enjoy the brilliance of the freshly polished blade.
