Description
Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Naminohira Yasuuji 波平安氏 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate
The Naminohira school is a lineage of swordsmiths that has continued uninterrupted since the Heian period. This particular smith, 安氏, is the son of 安常, the 59th head of the Naminohira main family, and 安氏 himself became the 60th generation swordsmith. His common names were 橋口勘之丞 and 甚之丞, and in Kyōwa 2 (1802), he changed his signature from 安氏 to 安行.
This sword has a well-balanced width difference between the base and the tip, with a slightly extended 中切先 (medium tip). The curvature is shallower above the tang. The steel has a well-forged 杢目 (wood grain) pattern that is tightly packed, and the blade edge flows with a beautiful 柾目 (straight grain). The hamon is a bright and clear 直刃調 (straight temper line) mixed with shallow waves and 互ノ目 (irregular clove patterns), creating a deep nioi. 金筋 (kin-suji) can be seen in various places along the edge, and thick kin-suji, resembling potato vines, are notably visible within the hamon. The boshi (tip) returns to a large round shape on both sides. The balance is excellent with a center of gravity towards the hand, and there are no noteworthy flaws, making it an ideal sword for appreciation.
Bare weight: 698 grams.
