Description

Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Fujiwara Yoshikuni 藤原義國造 NBTHK HOZON TŌKEN Certificate

According to the swordsmith directory, there are seven smiths who signed with the name 義國 (Yoshikuni) during the Shinshinto period. These smiths typically used the surnames 加藤 (Kato) or 源 (Minamoto), and none are known to have used the surname 藤原 (Fujiwara). Therefore, the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK) has not been able to determine which Yoshikuni made this blade. It is possible that this smith was not included in the directory.

This sword has no notable flaws or defects. The finely forged 杢目肌 (mokume hada) is slightly prominent with a bright and clear 匂口 (nioiguchi), featuring a beautifully executed 互ノ目丁子乱れ (gunome-choji midare). The blade shows various activities and features at the edge, demonstrating a spirited and lively quality. With a length close to 2尺5寸, an extended 切先 (kissaki), and a wide, sturdy build, this sword is highly recommended as an excellent piece for artistic appreciation.

Bare weight: 965 grams.
