Description
Custom Samurai Sword – Hand Forged Sanmai Laminated Steel Clay Tempered Blade (Katana / Wakizashi / Tanto, Sashikomi or Hadori Style Polish)
This custom samurai sword is hand forged using a traditional Sanmai laminated steel construction. Sanmai, meaning “three-layer steel” in Japanese, is a classic blade-making method in which a hard high-carbon steel core is sandwiched between two layers of softer steel. This structure allows the blade to achieve excellent cutting performance while maintaining durability and shock resistance.
The hardened core steel forms the cutting edge, providing superior hardness and edge retention, while the outer layers help absorb impact and improve the blade’s overall toughness. This combination creates a well-balanced blade that is both strong and reliable, reflecting traditional Japanese sword-making principles.
Each blade is crafted using a traditional clay tempering process, which produces differential hardening along the edge. This technique creates a harder cutting edge and a tougher spine, improving both cutting efficiency and structural resilience. The process also produces a natural and visible hamon (temper line), adding to the blade’s visual beauty and traditional character.
This sword is available in three classic Japanese blade sizes to suit different preferences:
Katana – The iconic long samurai sword, known for its balance, reach, and powerful cutting capability.
Wakizashi – A medium-length companion sword, versatile and easy to control.
Tanto – A compact short blade valued for its strength, control, and precision.
To further customize the appearance of the blade, two traditional polishing styles are available:
Sashikomi Style Polish – A traditional polishing technique that reveals the hamon naturally and preserves the authentic character of the blade.
Hadori Style Polish – A polishing method that enhances and highlights the hamon with a brighter and more defined contrast.
Each sword is individually forged and finished by skilled craftsmen, ensuring that every blade is unique. Combining traditional Sanmai construction with careful heat treatment and polishing techniques, this custom samurai sword offers both functional performance and refined craftsmanship, making it ideal for collectors, martial arts practitioners, and enthusiasts who appreciate the heritage of Japanese blades.
