Bokuden katana is named in honor of Tsukahara Bokuden (1489–1571), one of the most influential swordsmen in Japanese history and the founder of the Kashima Shintō-ryū tradition. Revered for his exceptional swordsmanship, discipline, and philosophy of mastering conflict through wisdom rather than violence, Bokuden became a lasting symbol of the true spirit of the samurai. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his enduring legacy through a design that reflects balance, refinement, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade combines excellent cutting performance with a clean and harmonious form. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a graceful Real Notare hamon, whose gentle undulating temper line flows naturally along the cutting edge like rolling waves. The differential hardening process creates a harmonious balance between a hard cutting edge and a resilient spine, reflecting the practical character of a traditionally forged katana.
The koshirae is centered around a brass Maru-gata tsuba featuring a layered lotus petal motif. The lotus symbolizes purity, spiritual awakening, and inner composure. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature delicate sakura motifs, adding a refined seasonal contrast to the mounting. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, harmonizing naturally with the warm tones of the fittings.
The tsuka is wrapped in brown cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, providing a secure and comfortable grip while creating a warm, natural appearance. The saya is finished in a traditional Black Ishime lacquer, whose stone-textured surface conveys understated elegance and durability. A matching blue sageo completes the koshirae, adding a subtle accent that balances the overall design.
