Description
KSA “Jiang” Series Katana – Dōsan | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Sanbonsugi Hamon | Sashikomi Polish | Green Ishime Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure
Dōsan katana is named in honor of Saitō Dōsan (1494–1556), one of the most formidable figures of Japan's Sengoku period. Rising from humble origins to become the ruler of Mino Province, Dōsan earned the title "The Viper of Mino" through his exceptional political acumen, unwavering resolve, and mastery of strategy. His legacy is one of resilience, intelligence, and disciplined leadership—qualities reflected in the character of this katana, where refined craftsmanship meets quiet strength.
Forged from folded steel (Damascus) using traditional techniques, the blade reveals an elegant forged grain created through repeated folding and forge welding. Traditional clay tempering produces a crisp Sanbonsugi hamon, the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, admired for its rhythmic and dynamic appearance. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade naturally showcases both the flowing hada and the genuine hamon while preserving the classical beauty of Japanese sword polishing. Combined with a traditional full-tang construction and authentic kissaki geometry, Dōsan offers both refined aesthetics and dependable performance.
The koshirae is centered around a round brass tsuba carved with two opposing guardian lions in a balanced, symmetrical composition. Representing strength, courage, and protection, the design is enhanced by a finely textured background that adds depth and traditional character. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature a subtle Mokume wood-grain texture inspired by the natural patterns of timber, bringing warmth and understated elegance to the mounting.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a timeless black-and-white contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a rich Green Ishime lacquer, whose stone-textured surface offers both durability and quiet sophistication. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, reinforcing the sword's restrained and balanced appearance.
