Kiyomasa katana is named in honor of Katō Kiyomasa (1562–1611), one of the most distinguished generals of Japan's Azuchi–Momoyama and early Edo periods. Renowned for his military prowess, unwavering discipline, and fearless character, Kiyomasa became a lasting symbol of strength and determination. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his legacy through a design that reflects resilience, discipline, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade offers excellent cutting performance while maintaining the refined balance and elegant lines of a traditional Japanese sword. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a graceful Real Notare hamon, whose gentle undulating temper line flows naturally along the edge like calm waves. The differential hardening process creates a harmonious balance between a hard cutting edge and a resilient spine, reflecting the practical character of a well-made katana.
The koshirae is centered around a black iron tsuba featuring Nine Syllable (Kuji) openwork. Rooted in esoteric Buddhist tradition, the Kuji motif symbolizes spiritual focus, protection, and inner strength. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Jūji Kikkō pattern, representing longevity, protection, and steadfastness. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, adding a subtle warmth to the restrained design.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a classic monochromatic appearance while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a deep Gloss Black Lacquer, whose polished surface emphasizes the sword's refined and disciplined character. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, creating a timeless and harmonious appearance.
