Masanori katana is named in honor of Fukushima Masanori (1561–1624), one of the most renowned generals of Japan's Azuchi–Momoyama and early Edo periods. A loyal retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Masanori was celebrated for his courage, military achievements, and unwavering warrior spirit. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his legacy through a design that combines strength, refinement, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade offers exceptional durability and dependable cutting performance. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a bold Sanbonsugi hamon—the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, admired for its crisp rhythm and distinctive appearance. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade faithfully preserves the natural beauty of the hardened edge while revealing the genuine hamon with understated elegance.
The koshirae is centered around a Kiku-gata brass tsuba featuring a finely sculpted dragon motif. The chrysanthemum-shaped guard symbolizes nobility and longevity, while the dragon represents wisdom, strength, and celestial authority. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Kyō Ajiro pattern, inspired by Kyoto's refined woven bamboo craftsmanship and reflecting harmony and precision. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, complementing the warm tones of the tsuba.
The tsuka is wrapped in deep brown cotton ito over genuine black samegawa, creating a rich and understated contrast while providing a secure, comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a distinctive Black Red-Speckled Lacquer, where vivid crimson speckles are scattered across a deep black lacquer surface, inspired by traditional Japanese lacquerware. A matching gold sageo completes the koshirae, adding warmth and visual balance to the overall mounting.
