Masayuki is a katana from the Huo Series, inspired by the enduring spirit of Japanese martial tradition and the harmonious balance between strength and restraint. Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade delivers excellent durability, responsive handling, and dependable cutting performance. Clay tempered using traditional methods, it reveals a striking Sanbonsugi hamon—the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, whose crisp, repeating rhythm evokes rows of towering cedar trees. Finished in a refined sashikomi polish, the blade preserves the natural beauty of the hardened edge, allowing the authentic hamon to emerge with clarity and depth rather than artificial contrast.
The koshirae is centered around a round brass tsuba intricately carved with a dramatic dragon-and-tiger landscape. The dragon soaring through swirling clouds and the tiger standing firmly among mountain peaks symbolize the harmony between heavenly power and earthly strength, wisdom and courage. Richly detailed and finished in warm brass, the tsuba conveys both commanding presence and timeless craftsmanship. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the classic Seigaiha pattern, a traditional motif of layered ocean waves representing peace, resilience, and the wish for an enduring future. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, providing a precise fit while complementing the warm tones of the tsuba.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine black samegawa, creating a refined monochromatic appearance that emphasizes both practicality and elegance. The secure wrap provides a comfortable, confident grip during handling while enhancing the sword's disciplined aesthetic. The saya is finished in a White Speckled Lacquer, where a clean white lacquer surface is delicately accented with fine black speckles. This understated finish recalls the subtle beauty of traditional Japanese lacquerware while creating a striking contrast against the black tsuka and fittings. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, bringing the entire mounting together with a balanced interplay of light and dark.
Masayuki is a katana that expresses authority through refined craftsmanship rather than excess. From the sharply defined Sanbonsugi hamon to the symbolic dragon-and-tiger tsuba, the timeless Seigaiha fittings, and the elegant contrast of its black-and-white koshirae, every detail reflects the enduring values of balance, perseverance, and traditional Japanese artistry. Designed for practitioners and collectors alike, it is a sword that combines martial character with timeless elegance.
