Masayuki katana is named in honor of Sanada Masayuki (1547–1611), one of the most respected military commanders and strategists of Japan's Sengoku period. Renowned for his intelligence, resilience, and tactical brilliance, Masayuki laid the foundation for the legendary Sanada clan and earned lasting admiration for his ability to overcome overwhelming odds. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his legacy through a design that embodies strength, discipline, and enduring samurai spirit.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade offers excellent durability and dependable cutting performance. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a striking Sanbonsugi hamon—the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, admired for its crisp rhythm and distinctive appearance. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade faithfully preserves the natural beauty of the hardened edge while revealing the genuine hamon with clarity and traditional elegance.
The koshirae is centered around a round brass tsuba intricately carved with a dramatic dragon-and-tiger landscape. Symbolizing the harmony between heavenly wisdom and earthly strength, the dragon and tiger represent courage, authority, and unwavering determination. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Seigaiha pattern, whose layered ocean waves symbolize peace, resilience, and an enduring future. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, complementing the warm tones of the tsuba.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine black samegawa, creating a refined monochromatic appearance while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a distinctive White Speckled Lacquer, where a clean white lacquer surface is accented with fine black speckles, creating an elegant contrast with the dark mountings. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, reinforcing the sword's balanced and timeless aesthetic.
