Mitsuhide is a katana from the Huo Series, crafted for those who appreciate the harmony between refined aesthetics and practical performance. Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade offers excellent durability, responsive handling, and dependable cutting capability. Through traditional clay tempering, the blade reveals a graceful Real Notare hamon, its gentle undulating temper line flowing naturally along the edge like quiet waves upon open water. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade preserves the natural beauty of the hardened steel, allowing the genuine hamon to emerge with subtle depth and understated elegance. Combined with a tight-fitted tsuka core and well-balanced Niku geometry, Mitsuhide is built for confident handling and reliable cutting performance while maintaining the refined character of a traditionally crafted katana.
The koshirae is centered around a black iron sukashi tsuba featuring elegant dragonfly and rising sun motifs. In Japanese culture, the dragonfly has long symbolized courage, victory, and unwavering determination, while the rising sun represents renewal, hope, and the beginning of a new day. Together, these motifs embody resilience, forward momentum, and the enduring spirit of the warrior. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from blackened white copper (patinated cupronickel), are decorated with delicate vine motifs, symbolizing continuous growth, longevity, and enduring prosperity. A pair of Copper scalloped seppa adds a refined traditional accent, while a precisely fitted Copper habaki completes the mounting with both structural integrity and visual harmony.
The tsuka is wrapped in white cotton ito over aged natural samegawa, creating a bright yet understated contrast that highlights the sword's traditional character. The lightly aged rayskin lends warmth and authenticity, while the secure wrap provides a comfortable and confident grip during extended handling. The saya is finished in a striking Red Ishime lacquer, its richly textured stone-like surface offering both durability and visual depth. Reinforced with buffalo horn at the koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri, the saya combines practical resilience with refined craftsmanship. A matching deep brown sageo completes the koshirae, adding an earthy balance that harmonizes beautifully with the vivid red lacquer and natural tones of the tsuka.
Mitsuhide is a katana that reflects composure rather than extravagance. From the naturally flowing Real Notare hamon to the symbolic dragonfly-and-sun tsuba, the elegant vine-pattern fittings, and the vibrant Red Ishime Saya, every element expresses the balance between traditional artistry and functional design. Designed for both dedicated practitioners and discerning collectors, Mitsuhide stands as a timeless expression of Japanese sword craftsmanship, where beauty, resilience, and performance exist in perfect harmony.
