Mitsuhide katana is named in honor of Akechi Mitsuhide (1528–1582), one of the most influential and enigmatic military commanders of Japan's Sengoku period. Renowned for his intelligence, strategic ability, and refined appreciation of culture, Mitsuhide remains one of the most discussed figures in Japanese history. Bearing his name, this katana reflects the balance of discipline, elegance, and martial tradition that defined the era in which he lived.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade offers excellent durability and dependable cutting performance. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a graceful Real Notare hamon, whose gentle undulating temper line flows naturally along the edge with quiet elegance. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade faithfully preserves the natural beauty of the hardened steel while revealing the genuine hamon. Combined with a tight-fitted tsuka core and well-balanced Niku geometry, Mitsuhide delivers both traditional aesthetics and reliable performance for cutting practice.
The koshirae is centered around a black iron sukashi tsuba featuring elegant dragonfly and rising sun motifs. In Japanese tradition, the dragonfly symbolizes courage and victory, while the rising sun represents renewal and hope. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from blackened white copper (patinated cupronickel), are decorated with delicate vine motifs, representing growth, longevity, and enduring prosperity. A pair of copper scalloped seppa and a precisely fitted copper habaki complete the mounting with both traditional character and structural integrity.
The tsuka is wrapped in white cotton ito over aged natural samegawa, creating a refined contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a richly textured Red Ishime lacquer and reinforced with buffalo horn at the koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri for enhanced durability. A matching deep brown sageo completes the koshirae, harmonizing beautifully with the vivid red saya and natural tones of the tsuka.
