Mitsunari katana is named in honor of Ishida Mitsunari (1560–1600), one of the most influential military commanders and statesmen of Japan's Sengoku period. Best known for his unwavering loyalty to Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his leadership during the Battle of Sekigahara, Mitsunari became a lasting symbol of conviction, integrity, and perseverance. Bearing his name, this katana pays tribute to his legacy through a design that reflects strength, discipline, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Forged from T10 high-carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade combines excellent cutting performance with a refined and well-balanced profile. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a graceful Real Notare hamon, whose gentle undulating temper line flows naturally along the cutting edge like rolling waves. The differential hardening process creates a harmonious balance between a hard cutting edge and a resilient spine, reflecting the practical character of a traditionally forged katana.
The koshirae is centered around a brass tsuba featuring a dramatic dragon and tiger motif. The dragon and tiger symbolize the harmony of wisdom and strength, heaven and earth, and the union of strategy with martial courage. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature elegant wave motifs that echo the flowing character of the hamon. A polished brass habaki completes the mounting, harmonizing with the warm tones of the tsuba.
The tsuka is wrapped in blue cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a striking contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a distinctive Black Red-Speckled Lacquer, where crimson speckles are scattered across a deep black lacquer surface, creating a bold and refined appearance. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, balancing the vivid colors with a disciplined, traditional aesthetic.
