Description
KSA “Huo” Series Katana – Motonari | Hand-Forged T10 High Carbon Blade | Clay Tempered with Real Wave Hamon | Full Tang | Hand-Fitted Fittings | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Geometry | Red Ishime Saya | Tight-Fitted Tsuka Core | Cutting Practice Ready
Named Motonari, this katana embodies quiet determination and practical strength, drawing inspiration from the disciplined spirit of the Sengoku-era warrior. Forged from T10 high-carbon steel, the blade combines excellent edge retention with the resilience required of a functional Japanese sword, presenting a refined balance between cutting performance and traditional aesthetics.
The blade undergoes traditional clay tempering, revealing a genuine Notare Wave Hamon that flows gracefully along the edge like rolling waves. The gentle undulations of the hamon create a sense of movement and depth, while the differential hardening process gives the blade its characteristic blend of a hard cutting edge and a resilient spine.
The koshirae is centered around a blackened iron mokkō-gata tsuba featuring openwork axe motifs. The mokkō-gata form, inspired by the shape of a quince blossom, is a timeless guard style in Japanese sword furniture. The openwork axe design evokes themes of strength, resolve, and martial valor, lending the sword a bold yet understated presence. Complementing the tsuba is a set of Wood Grain Fuchi-Kashira, crafted from white copper and finished with a subtle wood-grain texture. The organic linear pattern recalls the natural beauty of timber and imparts a sense of quiet refinement to the mounting.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine rayskin, creating a classic black-and-white contrast and providing a secure, comfortable grip. The sword is housed in a striking Red Ishime Saya, whose stone-textured lacquer finish combines rich color with understated elegance. Paired with a black sageo, the mounting achieves a harmonious balance of vivid red and restrained black, making the sword both visually distinctive and traditionally grounded.
Motonari is a katana that celebrates simplicity and strength. From its authentic notare hamon and symbolic axe-motif tsuba to its refined wood-grain fittings and deep red stone-textured saya, every element has been carefully selected to create a sword that embodies steadfastness, practicality, and enduring samurai spirit.
