Description
KSA “Hua” Series Katana – Nagamasa | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Sanbonsugi Hamon | Sashikomi Polish | Gloss Black Lacquer Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure
Nagamasa is a katana from the Hua Series, created for those who appreciate the timeless beauty of traditional Japanese swordsmithing. Forged from folded steel using classical techniques, the blade displays a refined forged grain that reflects the craftsmanship of repeated folding and forge welding. Through traditional clay tempering, it reveals a distinctive Sanbonsugi hamon—the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, celebrated for its crisp rhythm and dynamic character. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade preserves the natural contrast between the steel's flowing hada and the hardened edge, allowing both the forged texture and genuine hamon to emerge with understated elegance. Combined with a traditional full-tang construction and an authentic kissaki structure, Nagamasa embodies both functional performance and classical Japanese craftsmanship.
The koshirae is centered around a round brass tsuba intricately carved with a dramatic dragon-and-tiger landscape. The dragon soaring through swirling clouds and the tiger standing firmly upon rugged mountains symbolize the balance of heavenly wisdom and earthly strength, representing courage, authority, and unwavering determination. The warm brass finish enhances the depth of the carving while lending the mounting a timeless classical character. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Seigaiha pattern, whose layered ocean waves symbolize peace, resilience, and an enduring future. Together, these fittings create a harmonious composition rooted in traditional Japanese symbolism.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a striking monochrome contrast that highlights both the precision of the wrapping and the natural beauty of the rayskin. The secure grip offers comfort and confidence in handling while reinforcing the sword's refined appearance. The saya is finished in a deep Gloss Black Lacquer, presenting a smooth mirror-like surface that complements the polished fittings with quiet sophistication. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, unifying the entire mounting with a disciplined and elegant aesthetic.
Nagamasa is a katana that celebrates the enduring traditions of Japanese sword making. From the flowing grain of its folded steel blade and the sharply defined Sanbonsugi hamon, to the commanding dragon-and-tiger tsuba and the timeless Seigaiha fittings, every detail reflects a balance of artistry, symbolism, and practical craftsmanship. Designed for collectors and practitioners alike, Nagamasa stands as a refined expression of tradition, strength, and enduring elegance.
