Description
KSA “Jiang” Series Katana – Nagamasa | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Sanbonsugi Hamon | Sashikomi Polish | Gloss Black Lacquer Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure
Nagamasa katana is named in honor of Azai Nagamasa (1545–1573), the renowned daimyō of Ōmi Province during Japan's Sengoku period. Celebrated for his courage, loyalty, and unwavering sense of honor, Nagamasa remained steadfast to his principles even in the face of overwhelming adversity. His legacy continues to embody the ideals of the samurai, making his name a fitting tribute to a katana that reflects traditional craftsmanship, resilience, and timeless elegance.
Forged from folded steel using classical techniques, the blade reveals a refined forged grain created through repeated folding and forge welding. Through traditional clay tempering, it develops a distinctive Sanbonsugi hamon—the iconic three-peaked temper line of the Mino tradition, admired for its crisp rhythm and dynamic appearance. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade naturally showcases both the flowing hada and the genuine hamon while preserving the classical beauty of Japanese sword polishing. Combined with a traditional full-tang construction and authentic kissaki geometry, Nagamasa offers both refined aesthetics and dependable performance.
The koshirae is centered around a round brass tsuba intricately carved with a dramatic dragon-and-tiger landscape. Symbolizing the balance of heavenly wisdom and earthly strength, the dragon and tiger represent courage, authority, and unwavering determination. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Seigaiha pattern, whose layered ocean waves symbolize peace, resilience, and an enduring future.
The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a timeless black-and-white contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a deep Gloss Black Lacquer, whose smooth mirror-like surface complements the polished fittings with understated elegance. A matching black sageo completes the koshirae, reinforcing the sword's disciplined and harmonious appearance.
