Nobutsuna is a katana from the Huo Series, defined by refined simplicity, seasonal elegance, and enduring martial spirit. Forged from T10 high carbon steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade embodies exceptional cutting performance while maintaining a graceful and balanced form. The overall geometry reflects a harmonious union of strength, precision, and timeless Japanese aesthetics.
The blade is clay tempered, displaying a genuine Notare Wave Hamon that flows gently along the cutting edge like rolling waves beneath a tranquil sky. The natural undulations of the temper line bring a sense of rhythm and movement to the blade, revealing the beauty and vitality that can only be achieved through traditional differential hardening.
The koshirae is centered around a Mokko-gata brass tsuba adorned with blooming sakura motifs. The abundance of cherry blossoms evokes the fleeting beauty of spring and the warrior's appreciation for impermanence and renewal. The Sakura Ishime fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper, continue this seasonal theme through delicately sculpted cherry blossoms and a finely textured stone finish, lending the mounting an atmosphere of quiet elegance and refined craftsmanship. A brass habaki secures the blade firmly, complementing the warm tones of the fittings.
The tsuka features black cotton ito wrapped over genuine samegawa, creating a timeless and dignified contrast that emphasizes both practicality and restraint. The saya is finished in a White Speckled Lacquer, its lightly textured surface recalling drifting snow or scattered cherry blossoms carried upon the spring wind, giving the sword a serene and distinctive presence. A black sageo completes the mounting, grounding the brighter elements of the koshirae and reinforcing the disciplined character of the overall design.
Nobutsuna is not merely a display piece—it is an expression of balance, impermanence, and enduring craftsmanship. With its genuine Notare hamon, symbolic sakura motifs, and harmonious contrast between black and white, it embodies both tranquility and resilience, crafted for practitioners and collectors who appreciate traditional artistry, meaningful symbolism, and an elegant yet commanding presence.
