Takatora is named in honour of Tōdō Takatora (藤堂高虎, 1556–1630), the renowned Sengoku-period warrior and daimyō who became especially celebrated for his military experience and skill in castle construction. Rising through an age of constant warfare, Takatora served several major lords before becoming a trusted retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Remembered for his adaptability, discipline, and strategic ability, he left a lasting legacy through both his military career and the castles he helped design and develop. This katana bears his name as a tribute to his resilience, judgement, and martial spirit.

The blade is hand-forged from T10 high-carbon steel and traditionally clay tempered to produce a genuine Choji Hamon through differential hardening. Finished with Sashikomi polish, the blade presents a refined traditional appearance while allowing the natural hamon to remain clearly visible. Its full-tang construction and authentic kissaki geometry provide both structural reliability and a traditional Japanese sword profile.

The koshirae features a brass openwork tsuba with a plum blossom motif, paired with darkened cupronickel Karakusa fuchi-kashira. The tsuka is tightly wrapped in brown cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a warm and restrained contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip.

A White Speckled saya gives the mounting a clean and distinctive appearance, while the matching brown sageo brings visual continuity to the tsuka. The combination of white, brown, darkened metal, and warm brass creates a balanced and refined composition that reflects Takatora’s disciplined and adaptable character.
