Description
KSA “Hua” Series Katana – Toshiie | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Real Wave Hamon | Green Ishime Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure
Toshiie is a katana from the Hua Series, defined by quiet refinement, natural elegance, and enduring symbolism. Forged from folded steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade reveals a subtle jihada beneath its surface—an expression of repeated folding and careful refinement that gives the steel remarkable depth and an organic, living character. The overall form remains graceful and balanced, embodying both discipline and understated sophistication.
The blade is clay tempered, displaying a genuine Notare Wave Hamon that flows gently along the cutting edge like rolling waves beneath a calm horizon. The undulating temper line brings a sense of rhythm and serenity to the blade, while the delicate jihada created through the folded-steel construction harmonizes naturally with the hamon, together expressing the timeless artistry of traditional Japanese swordsmithing.
The koshirae is centered around a Mokko-gata brass tsuba featuring the Hidari Mitsudomoe crest. The softly contoured silhouette and bark-like texture evoke the beauty of the natural world, while the ancient tomoe emblem symbolizes protection, continuity, and the cyclical flow of life. The Kyō Ajiro fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper, introduce an elegant woven pattern inspired by traditional Kyoto craftsmanship, adding refinement and subtle visual texture to the mounting. A brass habaki secures the blade firmly, complementing the warm tones of the fittings.
The tsuka features white cotton ito wrapped over genuine samegawa, creating a crisp and dignified contrast that conveys purity and composure. The saya is finished in a Green Ishime lacquer, its stone-textured surface recalling moss-covered stone and the tranquil landscapes of mountain forests, lending the sword a calm and contemplative presence. A black sageo completes the mounting, grounding the brighter elements of the koshirae and reinforcing the disciplined character of the overall design.
Toshiie is not merely a display piece—it is an expression of balance, refinement, and enduring spirit. With its genuine Notare hamon, symbolic Mitsudomoe crest, and harmonious combination of green, white, and dark tones, it embodies both tranquility and resilience, crafted for practitioners and collectors who appreciate traditional artistry, meaningful symbolism, and a timeless aesthetic presence.
