Tsunehisa katana is named in honor of Amago Tsunehisa (1458–1541), one of the most influential daimyō of Japan's Sengoku period. Renowned for his military talent, strategic vision, and determination, Tsunehisa laid the foundation of the powerful Amago clan. This katana bears his name as a tribute to his enduring legacy through traditional craftsmanship and practical performance.
Hand-forged from T10 high-carbon steel, the blade is clay tempered to produce a striking Real Hitatsura hamon, where hardened patterns extend dramatically across the blade surface. Finished in an authentic sashikomi polish, the blade naturally highlights the genuine hamon while preserving the classical beauty of Japanese sword polishing. Combined with a traditional full-tang construction, authentic kissaki geometry, and a tight-fitted tsuka core, Tsunehisa offers excellent balance and dependable cutting performance.
The koshirae is centered around a black iron tsuba featuring Nine Syllable (Kuji) openwork, symbolizing spiritual focus, protection, and inner strength. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper (cupronickel), feature the traditional Karakusa vine motif, representing prosperity, continuity, and enduring fortune.
The tsuka is wrapped in brown cotton ito over genuine white samegawa, creating a warm, natural contrast while providing a secure and comfortable grip. The saya is finished in a traditional Black Ishime lacquer, whose stone-textured surface offers durability and understated elegance. A matching deep brown sageo completes the koshirae, reinforcing the sword's balanced and disciplined appearance.
