Description
KSA “Hua” Series Katana – Yoshihiro | Folded Steel (Damascus) Clay Tempered Blade | Real Wave Hamon | Brown Ishime Saya | Genuine Rayskin | Authentic Kissaki Structure
Yoshihiro is a katana from the Hua Series, defined by tranquil strength, flowing elegance, and a deep connection to the enduring spirit of the sea. Forged from folded steel in traditional Maru-zukuri construction, the blade reveals a subtle jihada beneath its surface—an expression of repeated folding and careful refinement that gives the steel remarkable depth and an organic, living character. The overall form remains balanced and graceful, embodying both restraint and quiet confidence.
The blade is clay tempered, displaying a genuine Notare Wave Hamon that flows along the cutting edge like gentle swells upon the ocean. The natural undulations of the temper line bring a sense of rhythm and movement to the blade, while the delicate jihada created through the folded-steel construction harmonizes beautifully with the hamon, together expressing the timeless artistry of traditional Japanese swordsmithing.
The koshirae is centered around a brass tsuba featuring an ocean wave motif, its swirling patterns evoking the boundless energy and ever-changing nature of the sea. The fuchi and kashira, crafted from white copper and adorned with matching wave motifs, continue this maritime theme, symbolizing perseverance, adaptability, and the enduring strength found in nature. A brass habaki secures the blade firmly, adding a subtle warmth that complements the darker tones of the mounting.
The tsuka features black cotton ito wrapped over genuine samegawa, creating a timeless and understated contrast that emphasizes both practicality and dignity. The saya is finished in a Brown Ishime lacquer, its stone-textured surface recalling weathered earth and driftwood shaped by time and tide, lending the sword a grounded and contemplative presence. A brown sageo completes the mounting, introducing a natural warmth that harmonizes beautifully with the earthy tones of the saya and fittings.
Yoshihiro is not merely a display piece—it is an expression of serenity, resilience, and enduring craftsmanship. With its genuine Notare hamon, harmonious wave motifs, and warm, natural color palette, it embodies both the calm and power of the sea, crafted for practitioners and collectors who appreciate traditional artistry, meaningful symbolism, and a refined yet commanding presence.
